Spooky Stuff for Halloween

This is a perfect time of year to read a spooky story!

Check out the books on display in the CMS Library or read one of these favorites:

Doll Bones by Holly Black - Three friends from a Pennsylvania middle school who have long enjoyed acting out imaginary adventures with dolls and action figures, embark on a real-life quest to Ohio to bury a doll made from the ashes of a dead girl.

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman - The orphan Bod, short for Nobody, is taken in by the inhabitants of a graveyard as a child of eighteen months and raised lovingly and carefully to the age of eighteen years by the community of ghosts and otherworldly creatures.

Breathe: a ghost story by Cliff McNish - When he and his mother move into an old farmhouse in the English countryside, asthmatic, twelve-year-old Jack discovers that he can communicate with the ghosts inhabiting the house and inadvertently establishes a relationship with a tormented, malevolent spirit that threatens to destroy both his mother and himself.

The Screaming Staircase by Jonathan Stroud, Book 1 in the Lockwood & Co series - Follows three young operatives of a psychic detection agency as they battle an epidemic of ghosts in London.

For even more spooky book suggestions read this article from School Library Journal or check the CMS Library catalog.
